I've been trying to upgrade from Win98 and the install
program keeps forcing me to exit since it says another
version is running. I've ended all other tasks so how do I
solve this?
Thanks

From the Windows 98 desktop, place the XP CD in the drive, when the setup
screen appears, select "Check System Compatibility," this may give a clue as
to what might be causing the issue.

To install Windows XP you need to boot from the CD-ROM. It will install
from there and you can do an Update, Dual boot or clean install from there.
Make sure you run the upgrade advisor prior to trying to install XP. Make
sure you download all the appropriate drivers prior to upgrading and store
them on CD or a second HDD if you are going to do a clean install.

Are you trying to install from a OEM cd?
