Hello ... I'm hoping someone out there will be able to
help me with some items in the XP. I was previously
using Windows 98 and recently upgraded to XP, and have
noticed many different things.

(1) On 98, there was a feature under System Tools that
did a scan disk (even a thorough search), and self-
corrected any problems found. XP doesn't seem to have
that feature, and I was told that I should purchase
Symantic Norton Disk Doctor as they had this feature. I
installed it, but when I try to run the scan disk with
the "correct errors" feature checked, it doesn't work ...
says I have to reboot and then it runs ... but, is it
ACTUALLY correcting any scan problems as the 98 Scan Disk
did ?
(2) With the Disc Doctor, I can optimize, but is it
actually correcting swap files as the 98 scan disk
feature? Also, NDD has a defragment feature (as does the
XP).. which would be more accurate ?
(3)I understand setting up the password by
the "Administator", but is there ANY way to block someone
to having access to the control panel once the pc is
running ? I have this problem of sharing a pc, and
others are going into the control panel and making
changes.
(4) I am using the FAT32 system. With windows XP, is
there ANY way to set up emergency diskettes to be used if
Windows doesn't start up ? I know Windows 98 allowed
emergency diskettes, but in reading the Knowledge Base
and FAQ, I was not able to find any information regarding
this.
WOW .. lot of questions I know, but I tried to be as
accurate as I could in seeking H E L P ... from others
who are able.
Thanks All
Bob

Scandisk is now known as Check Disk:

Open the Command Prompt and type: CHKDSK /F , and hit enter.
Answer "yes" and reboot your computer.

1. Open XP's "Help and Support".
2. Look under "Pick a Help topic".
3. Click on "Performance and Maintenance"

Note: You do not need Norton's Win Doctor. It uses XP's CHKDSK =
function.

The Windows XP CD itself is bootable and is a Startup Disk.
It has all the necessary tools to repair XP in the event of an
unlikely failure. However, you can make your own bootable
floppy disk if you so desire:

You need to setup a User Account for yourself and password-protect the =
