My Laptop Freezes Up

I own a Sony Viao Laptop equipped with Windows and Office
XP.
The laptop freezes randomly when I am using it. The
screen continues to work, but the mouse, keys and sound
freezes up. This occurs about every 5-10 minutes when I am
using the computer. It seems to occur more often when I
run the Windows Media Player and have music on. When I do
this, the computer freezes, and the song skips in the same
position, similar to a CD. Have any of you ever
encountered this problem. It may be a problem with the
processor.
