Cannot empty recycle bin

The "empty recycle bin" command, in its various locations,
does not work. It is "dark" and will not respond to clicks.
The recycle bin is accepting deleted files and retaining
them. Any ideas??

If you are using Norton's antivirus, you need to make the recycle bin a
Standard Bin. It is by default a protected file.
