I am not sure where to look..every so often I see a message that I am
disconnected and do I was to retry or work offline. This is a Microsoft
message.

Is there a connection setting I am missing?

Thank you.

A few years ago I used program called cookie crusher, all web pages went
through this program before displaying on IE,well the program was unstable
and would fail with no indication to tell me so,perhaps you have a security
program that is blocking your access or maybe your modem is failing.

The first thing I would do is to call your ISP and have them check your
line, another time I keeped being disconnected their was a crack in the
cable insulation, moister would seep into the line and short it out. My
point is that it may not be on your end, their may be a bad amplifier down
the road from you,
when you repair your connection your signal strengh starts out very strong
and may overcome a faulty cable line but this signal is reduced (this is
normal) after a connection is made and a disconnect may occur.
Eliminate the connection going to your PC before you drive yourself nuts
looking for something on your computer which may not be there.
Just my 2 cents worth :-)

Does the Google Toolbar pop-up blocker count as a cookie crusher that can cause
disconnects?

Not in my case. Google pop-up blocker works great with no disconnects.

Now and then, my Internet goes north on me...disconnects or runs very
slowly. The first time that happened, my ISP suggested disconnecting
the cable modem's power supply for five seconds, reconnecting, and
re-launching IE6. From then on (perhaps 5-7 times), I automatically
disconnect/reconnect the cable modem and all becomes right with the
world again. This may not work in your case but it wouldn't hurt to
try. Good luck!
