View Full Version : USB devices slow startup

I have found that my computer startup time slows considerably when USB
devices are connected. It slows the Win XP startup logo by nearly twice as
much. It is most significant when my Parkard Bell scanner is plugged in,
(even after rebooting numerous times)

Does anyone know why? (i imagine its just because windows wants to plug and
play enable it).

Can I disable starting up the USB devices, (if thats what causes slowdown),
when windows start until they are needed?

I wouldn't disable the USB on startup, what I would do however is disable
some of the startup programs by accessing:

Start>Run>msconfig

And disable any programs that aren't necessary upon startup. It could be
faulty USB drivers also maybe you can try updating them.

The more USB devices installed the slower the boot up.If you suspect
that the slow booting is due to Parkard Bell scanner then unplug that
and check if you get any difference.
