Can't remove a registry key

I'm haveing a problem with USB port and a scanner. From
the HP site they have suggested some changes to the
registry. There is a key that I need to delete however
when trying I get back a reply that the key connot be
deleted. Is there a way to get around this error. i.e.
rebuilding the databse without the specific key included

Right click on the key, select permissions and then make sure the allow
box is checked for all options. Some keys are protected by default.
