View Full Version : Firewire video connect

All of a sudden Windows will not detect any of my video cameras via firewire
(1394). What I have tried:
1 - tried connecting a different camera
2 - uninstalling 1394 devices
3 - bought a new cable and a new card
4 - downloaded the latest windows updates

none worked, and nothing changed on the PC that I am aware of. None of my
1394 ports, of which I have on three different cards, work. USB ports on the
same cards work, however.

Any ideas?

Can you take the card out and put it in another pc to see if it works there?
Have you installed anything which may interfere? Any updates to anything,
new programmes, codecs, hardware? If so, have you tried system restore?

Hi Graham, thanks for your help. By the way, one of the cameras I am trying
to connect is a Sony TVR.

Anyway, I finally resorted to reinstalling windows. Didn't solve the
problem. I am going to try your idea of moving one of my 1394 cards to a
different PC and see if I can eliminate the card issue. Can't imagine that
would be it since I already have three different cards that have 1394 ports.
But certainly worth a try.
