i got a new pc with windows xp and really often it tells
me there are new updates and wants to know what i want to
do about it. i don't understand why with a new pc, what
should i do and will it void my warrenty from gateway?

New does not equal updated.
There are new updates for various applications all the time. Some to fix
software problems, others to plug security holes and others for
compatability. Get the updates.

Hi Clarence,
There have been a vast number of updates released since WinXP was released.
Installing them should not void your warranty.
