Windows XP Service Pack 1

When I ran an online diagnostic, the results said that I
had a serious problem with Windows XP Service Pack 1.
Would it be safe to 'delete' the entire Service Pack 1
from my System, then re-install it---via "Update" ?
Also, from the 'error log' on my System, the WIA
service 'hangs' just after everything boots up.
Is it possible to 'delete this service (from the
System), then 'extract a fresh copy from the disc that
came with my computer ?
