Running WinXP Pro SP2, NVidia FX5200 video card in analog mode, and an NEC
MultiSync LCD 1970GX monitor. When I start the computer the display is
shifted left off of the screen. When I run DOS programs full screen they
are shifted left. I still have two DOS programs I need to run and they run
fine windowed and even at full screen except at full screen the left side of
the display is shifted off of the monitor. Asking here for suggestions how
to fix and will go to hardware if so directed. Open to any suggestions.

Sounds to me like you need to use the monitor's hardware controls to
properly position/size the image. Then, if the image is not quite right
under Windows, you may need to use Nvidia's interface (Display
Properties > Advanced) to again position everything properly.

I can do that but it is a pain. The object is to use DOS full screen and
shift back to windowed to use Windows and then of course Windows is shifted
to the right.

Problem solved. I did not realize the monitor would save settings.
