Closing XP Pro

For the past several months XP is E X T R E M E L Y
slow in shutting down or rebooting. It's taking from 90-
150 seconds. No error messages,no complaints, just takes
its time to close. If I just cut the power, no
complaints on power up. Anyone know a fix/correction for
this???
