Try shutting down the indexing service. This totally took
over my CPU usage. Go to control panel > Performance and
Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Services, then look
for "Indexing service" and double click. Under startup
type switch to "Disabled". This service only tries to make
searching for files a little faster, but I haven't noticed
any slowdowns since i disabled it.

Don't start shutting down services, though! Check out all
