View Full Version : Abnormal boot

Start up of Computer system seems fine until after boot
the Windows XP logo screen appears. The screen is not
frozen since the horizontal bar continues to strobe green
lights. However, this screen does not transition to the
Desktop screen. My only alternative was to shut off the
power and try to reboot. I attempted this several times
in normal, last known working configuration, safe mode
and safe mode with prompt options until it finally worked
in concert with automatic diskcheck. The diskcheck
operation didn't find anything unusual, but I did defrag
even though the disk didn't seem to need it. I have about
75% free space on disk and use Norton antivirus software
and McAfee firewall software. Is it possible I have much
less actual free space on disk than the system reports?
What else could be the problem?

Have you added any Devices since first purchased. ie hard drives, cd-rw,
dvd etc. Whats the PSU rated at in Watts?
You can download Motherboard Monitor for free here.
http://mbm.livewiredev.com/download.html Once installed
it will monitor the voltage values on your 3, 5 and 12v rails. If they
are falling below those values you may want to look
at upgrading the psu.
