Jessica,

The PC is not a Dell but an IBM. The modem is an internal
IBM PCI V.90 56 Data/Fax Modem. I'm not sure what you
mean by SP.

SP = Service Pack

In Control panel -- go to Phone and modem otpions - go to the modem - select
properties - go to power management and see if Allow device to bring computer
our of standby is checked -- if so -- try unchecking and reboot.
