I've recently bought a new HP PC with XP Home on it. As
is usually suggested, I got it set up and then ran
Windows Update. I have now tried 3 or 4 times, but it
downloads the files OK on my DSL connection, but then it
is very slow to actually install the updates. I selected
only 4 updates last time and 10 today, and it takes a
couple of hours for the Installer bar to go right across
the box. When it does eventually get to the end, it just
stops there and never completes the installation. Anyone
seen this before?

Hi Dave,

Lots of people have, but there are various reasons why it happens. Locate
the WindowsUpdate.log file in the \Windows or \Winnt folder. Open it and
scroll to the bottom, see if there are any error codes and compare them
against this site:
