View Full Version : adding video card

I have a Gateway 831GM. I'm trying to add a pci video card. Tried 3
different cards, all with the same results. The monitor display is fine
during the boot process, but then it goes blank. I know Windows is loaded
and all is well, I just can't see it.
If I plug the monitor into the original (on board) video connection, I can
see everything fine. I go into display properties settings and select the
new card. I even went into the control panel and disabled the on board
video. System properties even reports the display adapter as the new card
that I installed. But it is not! It is plugged into the original on board
connection. I get no video if I plug it into the new card.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

You must go into the BIOS and find the option that turns the on-board video
off.
Then look for an option to use a PCI video card as first video device.

I have the same problem. I have a Gateway 500SE, and did everything
you did, and still get a blank screen after seeing the Gateway Logo..
Did you ever resolve your issue?
