Folders are, for some reason, defaulting to read only.
And when I change them, are are automaticlly changed back
to read only. What causes this and how can I stop it?

Windows isn't telling you what it is and nor will it let you change. =
Your folders aren't all read only. Some must be. You can only change =
read only on files.
