when shutting down windows freezes computer will not shutdown power

Hi
The problems that i am having is when i log off my
computer in windows xp home edition. In windows is
shutting down window freezes and will not shut off power
to my computer. What can i do to fix the problem. I also
have down loaded sp1 so i know that isn't the problem.

I would appreciate any help.
