downloading attachments

I was researching several web pages Tuesday. After doing
so, I opened email tried to download an attachement,
opened the attachment and my clipboard contents appeared
rather than the document.

I tried shutting down and then I "restored" to Sunday's
settings. I still have the same problem, the clipboard
contents displays rather than the document.

Any suggestions. I need a solution fast.
