Hopefully not pointing out the obvious, but you didn't need to install Win98
first to install the 'upgrade' version of XP. Like all Microsoft products,
the upgrade version can be used to do a clean install from scratch, you just
need to prove you own a legit copy of whatever it is you are upgrading. In
this case, a clean install of XP will stop and prompt you to insert your 98
disk, once done, installation will continue.

To clean up your dual boot mess and get back to just having XP booting off
C: (if that's what you want), you may want to consider starting over and
reinstalling XP clean.

Hopefully not pointing out the obvious, but you didn't need to install Win98
first to install the 'upgrade' version of XP. Like all Microsoft products,
the upgrade version can be used to do a clean install from scratch, you just
need to prove you own a legit copy of whatever it is you are upgrading. In
this case, a clean install of XP will stop and prompt you to insert your 98
disk, once done, installation will continue.

To clean up your dual boot mess and get back to just having XP booting off
C: (if that's what you want), you may want to consider starting over and
reinstalling XP clean.

He already has both OS's installed, 98 and a clean XP. He just wants to
remove the 98 installation, which is fine and will still leave him with a
working XP install, if done correctly.

I don't *believe* so, and from what I've read there are ways to save the
registration information and then replace it after doing what needs to be
done, because you would not be changing any hardware. Sorry I can't provide
direct links but they should turn up in a newsgroup or Google search.

Besides, Doug Knox has correctly pointed out that you've already got a clean
install on D: so you should be able to just delete the Win98 install from
your C: drive and then adjust from there. You didn't say whether the D: you
mentioned was another drive or another partition on the same drive as C:,
this would probably affect what (if anything) you needed to do after undoing
your dual-boot situation.

Hi,

Jumping back in here.....

Just do exactly as you planned unless you want to reinstall to "C", =
there is no need to do otherwise. You should be aware that this =
arrangement is fine, however the boot files will be on C, so be careful =
not to to format it.

Should you choose to remove the C drive in the future, you will need to =
do a repair installation to be able to boot the system on D.
