If your copy of XP Professionl is either an upgrade version or a
full version, you don't need to delete anything and can install
it over the top of XP Home.

But if it's an OEM version (which many people confuse with the
full version) it can only do a clean installation.

You can just upgrade keeping all of your settings and files alone.
