After connecting my JVC GR-D240 DV camcorder to my PC via a firewire port and
opening Movie Maker, I start the capture the time counter stays at 00:0:00
and the file size goes to 5 K nothing happens except the camera plays, the
film is not previewed or captured. the firewire connection has been
recognised as Movie Maker rewinds the tape to the start before it starts the
play. Can anyone please help?

Try using an app like windv which is just designed for capture and export,
this should tell us if it is a hardware or software problem. Here's a link
to it.

Let us know what happens.
