explorer wont close

Whenever i use internet explorer, the only way to close
out the pages is to shut down my computer all together.
I have tried clicking the x and left clicking to pull up
close once it is minimized, but they do not work it just
makes a bell sound. Also now my windows media player
will come on but will say not responding when i try to
copy music. My laptop is a IBM thinkpad, and windows xp
home edition came with it. IBM has informed me it is a
microsoft issue and to go to windows update and download
latest edition, but my computer starts saying not
respondong when i try to use windows update too. Can
anyone help me?????

If you have a WinXP CD do a Repair Install. More Info here
