I use a broadband connection so I am connected to the
Internet at all times. I started getting an error
message today that pops up on my desktop (whether I open
my browser or not) that is titled APP_BK-048. In the box
that pops up it says "Connection timed out (error
#10060). Everything I have read about this suggests it
is a problem with a connection to a website. However, I
get the message even if my browser is closed and I am not
trying to connect to a website. It's as if some program
or file is trying to connect to a site by itself every 10
seconds or so.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Here is the fix for anyone having the same problem.
I discovered on my own that Symantec had a free removal tool for Sobig
at:

However, this does not completely solve the problem. I learned from a
user on another news group that I also had to manually remove a
registry key referring to the file "cgtask.exe" at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENTVERSION/RUN and
manually delete the file from C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32. I had to reboot into
safe mode with command prompt to delete it, but now the problem is
finally gone.
