Messenger 7.5 slow typing and can't login

Hello guys:
- brand new notebook with Windows XP Home edition SP2

The built-in Windows Messenger (v.4.7) works very well with my usual
MSN Passport account. Also the WEBMESSENGER works.

I downloaded the Messenger 7.5 but:
- at login I get Messenger freezed for 3 or 4 seconds at each character
I type for username and password
- Messenger can't login and shows a message box saying something like
"...maybe service is temporary unavailable..."

PLS HELP!
I tried to reinstall, reboot, "netsh winsock reset catalog", firewall
checking etc but no solution.

Hi!
Have you tried doing the ''Troubleshoot'' feature?
Made shure all MSN Messenger Ports are open?
TCP: 1863,6891-6900,6901 UDP:l6901

Unfortunately with the exception of 1863, those ports are wrong.

Hi -

I tried the troubleshhoting and Messenger gives ALL GREEN checks - so
it seems everything ok.

Note that Messenger 4.7 runs fine!

Really Jon? Oh sorry, I got those from PortForward... 8-) Better check
manually myself next time, sorry. Umm... Interrogativo, if you have Messenger
4.7 Installed, why dont you try removing that and see if Messenger 7.5 Works?
Also, check you're time settings, that is one weird problem what sometimes
solves it *shrug*

I sort of had the same problem where i couldn't log in, didnt have the slow
typing though, what fixed my problem was that my time and date was wrong...
make your you have the correct date and time

You are aware that MSN messenger 7.5 is different than Windows messenger,
right?
There is conflict when running both at the same time. Turn off Windows
messenger when using MSN messenger.
As for the advice to delete windows messenger that was given--nono. XP users
can not delete windows messengers (it can be done but you dont want to).
Simply turn off one or the other and see if that helps.
