View Full Version : Playback problem in Windows Explorer

My brother is running an AMD 3000+ XP HE SP2 computer.
Until recently, all movie file formats played fine - Xvid, Divx, etc., but
now when using Windows Explorer to view a folder containing movie files, as
soon as the file is highlighted or clicked on, it begins to play (in either
WMP 10 or RealPlayer), but then a window appears stating "Windows Explorer
has encountered a problem and needs to close". This then shuts down the
program playing the video file. It seems to have a major problem with Xvid
files.
Windows suggests contacting Xvid.org, but other than that offers no
solution... can anyone help please? The codecs are all up to date.
Many thanks.

Hello Graham, thank you for your response.
I'm sorry to have troubled you... my brother told me he'd checked Xvid's
user forums for a solution and couldn't find anything; I double checked, and
there it was - it's a codec problem, not Windows. The answer, for anyone
who may be interested, is simply to uninstall the Xvid codec, reboot, then
reinstall the latest version.
Thanks again for your time. Sincere apologies from two relative newbies. (No
pun intended)
