I have a new computer with Windows XP Home Edition. A
few weeks after I had the system running it would not
come back up. I took the hard drive and had it
reformatted and reinstalled and it worked again. Then a
few weeks later it did it to me again. The computer
couldn't find the hard drive. I tried unhooking the hard
drive from the primary and plugging it into the secondary
and the com still couldn't find the hard drive. I left
the com sitting for a couple of weeks out of
frustration. Today I got back on it to try to figure it
out. I hooked my secondary and primary back to their
original components (primary-hard drive) and turned it
back on, and to my surprise everything worked fine. Any
ideas on why it keeps losing my hard drive? Is this a
known problem with XP? Is there some update that can
solve this problem?

When you hooked it up the first time you may not have had the Cable on
correctly. That would definitely cause the drive
to not be seen. Make sure the Red Stipe on the Ribbon cable lines up with
Pin1 on your drive and on the connector on
the Motherboard. Also, you may try a different cable.
