I have been reading your posts re: " Can't open Hotmail" by TheresaL and
others. I had a similar problem after cleaning my Temp and Temporary I'net
files and cookies and had to access my e-mail through OE. Whenever I tried to
access Hotmail I'd get a window asking me to sign into Passport.net, which
having done so , the page would keep on recurring. I went all around the
world trying to diagnose the problem including turning off AV, Spybot,
Antispyware, Adaware, Ewido etc.....without any results, even contemplated a
Win XP repair but as my OS is now more up-to-date than my original 2003 CD
(from downloading hot fixes and SP2), I would have had to do some
slipstreaming or repair from the original and the reload the fixes .
Anyway to cut to the chase , my successful resolution was :.....Open browser
>Tools>I'net options> Privacy> Sites.......type in "passport.net" > click "
allow", and do the same for "msn.com" and "hotmail.com", and allow cookies
for the above three items ( I still retain " Prompt " for all other cookies ).
Next , under " Connections " tab in browser tools >I'net options > LAN
settings > tick " Automatically detect settings ", click " Apply" & " ok".
Click " Tools " in browser > Help > About Internet Explorer > .......and
ensure that the Cipher Strength is 128 bit.....Close, reboot , open
Messenger, click Hotmail icon and hopefully you wiil access your mail . It
worked for me ......Good Luck
