FTP

when i go to ftp.microsoft.com. i get message. ftp error folder. an error
occurred opening that folder on the ftp server. make sure you have
permisssion to access that folder. details: the operation timed out. how do i
correct?

I dont think you will have access to the Microsoft ftp. do you have
premission and a user name and password?

also why do you need to access the FTP ?

What permission do I need and how do you get it? I need to be able to enter a
program

I can't get access to it. If you explain exactly what you want to achieve
someone will try and help you. What does "I need to be able to enter a
program" mean? If the ftp sever is anonymous you should be able to get it.
If its not anonymous you would need login, password and port number.

I do business with a company thta downloads updates for a program by using
ftp. i added this site to my firewall exceptions and i also added ports 20
and 21. i need to access this site using ftp.

Are you using IE? I get right in just by clicking on the link
ftp.microsoft.com

I just tried on a diferent computer with flashfxp and I can get in. My other
computer just using ie wont connect but that could be any number of reasons
which I dont have time or inclination to look into. You could try getting
one of the many ftp apps as they have much better support for ftp than any
browser.

I just looked into this a bit more and you need to turn passive mode off. Do
NOT use passive mode.
