My Dell Dimension 8400 running XP home with SP2 seems to have
forgotten where to look for drivers for new devices that I plug into a
USB port.

When I plug a new device in it always reports that it can't find a
driver and should it search the internet for one. If I go back and
choose custon instal and tell it to look in windows\inf for the driver
it finds the correct driver.Surely this should be automatic and could
anyone kindly tell me how to get this auto function working again?

Thanks Roger.

Many thanks, running SFC worked like magic. I had been struggling for
ages with this. Roger
