I have a Compaq Presario 5220 running XP Pro with all the
current updates from microsoft.

320 meg of RAM....Pc works fine when playing MP3s files
with winamp or media player....

My issue is when I play a audio CD on the CD ROM (Audio is
broken up in either digital or straight analog mode on the
CD ROM)or when I use the monitor feature when recording
using any audio program like Cool Edit Pro....Cool Edit Pro
works great on playback or if I record not using the
monitor feature it sounds good on playback.......I tried
both....The CDs are fine....The CD ROM works great for data
files...Installed XP as an operating system using it. I
tried adjusting the performance settings and no change in
the audio breakup.

I tried reinstalling the audio driver for the onboard ES
1869 AudioDrive chip...no change....I checked the Compaq
support site for updates..none apply...Compaq support was
no help to me....
