System restore

Hi,

I am new to these boards. I can usually find the answer by searching the net
etc, but I seem to have come up with a dead end on this one. Does anyone know
how to get a system restore prior to 2006. I can't seem to move the calendar.

I have two compuers both using the Home Version of Windows XP, but I can't
seem to shift the date back to December 2005, does anyone know how?

Number of points or reversion dates is a function of the System
Restore disk allocation (12% default). I believe a point takes up
around 200 Megabytes. As the allocation limit is reached, new
points cause the oldest to "Roll-Off". So depending on your SR
settings you'll have a range of dates that is available to roll back
to.

Hi,

All available restore points will show up on the System Restore
calendar. If they are not here, they don't exist. How far back does the
calendar go?

In most cases, rolling back more than a week can cause more problems
than it solves. Take a look at the amount of disk space System Restore
is set to use. This can limit the amount of available restore point.

Here are some tips on how to adjust the amount of disk space System
Restore uses:

Hi,

Thanks Bert and R Mc Carty, neither of your replies really help, except that
they are advising me not to restore back to a date that is not shown that is
available on the screen. I am at a loss as to why at the beginning of the
system restore point it gives the option of changing the month and year which
I cannot do.

nyway, earlier this month ( January )I installed itunes, then uninstalled
it, but now I seem to have assumed a disk which doesn't exist. But I do use
Quicktime Pro, I wondered whether they were connected, which I was why I
wanted to roll back to a date prior to it's installation. This would be last
year,

I have since uninstalled itunes, but kept Quicktime Pro. This is is an Apple
product on a Windows XP system. Would that make Windows think there was
another disk?

Any of your obvious wisdom would be most appreciated.

System Restore doesn't hold restore points indefinitely. By default
restore points are purged after 90 days on a first in first out basis.
Another factor that determines how long restore points are held is the
amount of disk space set to hold them and the size of the restore point.

Hi Bert,

Sorry if I made myself unclear. Forget everything, basically can you you
system restore back to a date in 2005 or not. If you can, how, because I
can't move away from Jan 2006. I have loads of disc space, plus it's less
than 90 days since December 2005.
