Windows XP crashes when saving files

Also crashes when trying to download files from Newsgroups. I can select a
file and choose a folder to save to, but Windows freezes as soon as I try t o
save.

I have tried restoring system to a previous set point but encounter the same
problem.

Any clues/suggestions?
