View Full Version : how to remove/fix bad file/directory shortcuts(/links)

January 25th 06, 02:18 PM
Hi,

I've a situation where I've got about 20 odd shortcuts (links) that are
invalid as their Target attribute is NULL. Is there any way (without
using some 3rd party commercial software), to remove such links. I have
made myself the owner of all the files (& hopefully links too) in
recursive fashion via Properties, yet I get Access-Denied.

thanks & regards,

Thanks, but this is about taking ownership. I should hv mentioned in my
post that I've already done this, and taken ownership of files/folders
etc., recursively from a higher level in the directory tree. I am
getting the problem inspite of that.

Are you logged on as administrator?

Yes, in a way chrispsg. I am logged in as a user which has Admin
privileges. But I was wrong and people (including mikisw) in this list
were right. There's a slightly involved way which was not obvious
initially.

All I had to do to remove these links was to go to Advanced Permissions
and remove the inherited properties from parents, then remove the
permission (which showed mixed state of grey'd checkboxes) for
"Everyone" and then Add a new "Everyone" and give it "Full Control",
and then enable the checkbox that gets the children objects to inherit
this objects properties and Apply.

After doing this, "SHIFT+DEL" works perfectly.

thanks,
bd
