View Full Version : Memory application errors at bootup

I'll be thrilled if someone can answer this because after googling the errors
and searching these boards, I cannot find anything.

First, the background. I'm a PC Tech at HSBC and we've got a score of PCs at
my location that were upgraded to SP2 in the fall. These are Dell Optiplex
GX260s, 270s, and 280s. Anyhow, our process is to RIS these with SP2
installed. Ever since we've upgraded to SP2, we've been getting memory
errors, sporatically at boot up. The application error with have different
title names. One such one I'm looking at says "SR69D.exe - Application
error." "The instruction at "0x0040dc84" referenced memory at "0x00000000".
The memory could not be "written."

Now, I've run MSCONFIG, all types of Anti-Spyware programs, and Trend
Micro's OfficeScan product and it turns up nothing. The funny thing is, it
doesn' always happen to everyone, everyday and once it happens, it may not
come back after awhile. However, I noticed that these appeared after we
upgraded to SP2, so something tells me that SP2 is causing something to go
awry. I'm going to check Dell's forums next, but if anyone has any ideas, it
would help me a lot. I've been telling people around here that short of
paying MS money to troubleshoot this, we may never have a fix since it's too
dog gone hard to narrow this issue down. Has anyone figured out what these
processes/memory addresses mean? There's got to be a list somewhere.

TIA.

I would check with Dell to see if there are any known issues with these
models and with the way you are preparing them for deployment. If you
are buying in the quantities your post implies, you have access to
better tech support than the bottom-tier level service. From your
description, I'd say it was a driver issue but that's just a guess.

Hi Brain,
You didn't Say if the Error still carry on after the boot or is it stoped
now, well you should know better that in the future you should Lab Test any
Patches or Software Update like SP2 on separate PC,that for the benefit of
the Business you are working for, then you didn't say if you have enough
memory and disk Space on your Machines, don't forget the HSBC have a lot
Softies Runing on their Machines and Data going in and Data going out (on a
printer or Mailpost, reports),did happen for all the machines at once, could be
Applications problem (an Old one)have trouble to live with SP2. Will be
interesting if you did find an answer from the Dell Forum.
Hear from you soon

Like I said, it's sporatic. It happens at the CTRL-ALT-DEL screen, or just
after it.

C'mon. Don't take me for a fool. We tested this 6 months prior with and
without the firewall enabled. We even had test OUs installed with SP2.

If you reviewed the models, you'd see that they have anywhere between 256MB
and 512 MB of RAM. Not an issue there. And, we were just acquired by HSBC, so
we don't have the products they have.

Nope, like I said, sporatic. I may see this on 2-3 PCs a day and not
everyone happens like that, Actually, I spoke with a senior tech at a
different location and he gave me an idea. We pushed this out through SMS and
used Group Policy to turn off the firewall. So, I'm going to take a SP1
machine, manually update it to SP2 and see what happens. The more I think
about it, it may end up being SMS's fault.

None taken. I'm just looking for answers. I did get some advice that I should
try installing SP2 manually vs. the method that we had of it being pushed
through SMS. So, I'm going to try that next.
