Is it possible to set up my computer so that different users have different
programs that load under startup, for example. I want to create an account
that will not load any startup programs like the virus checker etc so will
run games better, and I want another account that loads up all my startup
programs for when im on the net or doing work...

Can someone please help

Sure. Simply create the additional accounts and disable undesired
programs in each account or remove them from your startup lists.

You *may* have to be an admin in some of these acccounts to disable some
AV software.

Hello Dave,

Startup items that load from "C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Start Menu\Programs" only load
when that specific user logs in. You might want to move the startup shortcuts for the specific
programs from "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs" to the individual user
account startup folder.

my startup lists are empty, Its the programs that can be turned on or off via
msconfig im having trouble with. I turn them off for one user and they turn
off for all users... any ideas?

If you turn off machine-based (rather than user/profile-based) settings
then that's to be expected, but I can't give you a general solution for
all the software you have (especially AV) because they integrate
themselves at different levels into the system.

Dave,

Remove them from "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run" and put them
under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run" for each of the user under
the registry. Take extreme precautions while editing the registry as doing so incorrectly might
render your system unusable.
