I have recently got a new PC and have loaded Office XP. I have set up outlook
to send and receive from my main email account. I also have a hotmail account
which I used to access from messenger by right clicking on it and selecting
'my email inbox' which would open the hotmail web page. Now when I select 'my
email inbox' it opens outlook!? Messenger and outlook seem to be linked in
some way as I cannot close messenger while outlook is still open. All I want
to do is use messenger to acess my hotmail account and not to have it linked
to outlook, any ideas how I can change this. Thanks.....

You would stand a better chance for an answer in an one of the Outlook
groups on this server/site. If you access through a browser you will
need to navigate you way through the "Community Newsgroups" menu on the
left side, since the site uses frames.

Greetings,

You'll simply need to change Hotmail back to the default mail handler. To do so, open up
Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then Programs tab and under
E-mail, select Hotmail.

Thanks very much Jonathan. That cured the problem with my e-mail inbox in
messenger but I want my main e-mail accounts as my default handler!?. On my
old PC I had this set up, messenger would always open the hotmail web page
and display my hotmail account seperatly.

I managed to stop messenger opening with outlook by disabling instant
messaging in options/ other.

Any other suggestions? I think I set messenger to use my main e-mail
accounts when I first ran it. Is there any way to run this again and change
this setting to hotmail?
I though of uninstalling and reinstalling but messenger is not listed in the
remove programs list.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings,

If you actually want it to login and access your Hotmail account, you'll need to be using MSN
Messenger (http://messenger.msn.com/download) and have a @msn.com or @hotmail.com Passport
signed in [and it will just magically work].
