Unable to download Windows Update files using DSL

This just recently cropped up and I am at a loss to
figure it out. Using XP, latest IE 6. software. I can
not download Windows update files (system just goes
totally hourglass). Does same thing on streaming videos
from gamespot also. I can download update files using
dialup line. Everything else seems to be working fine.
Email etc. Tough to update my system now that I can't do
downloads. Also, this is new, system has worked fine for
long time. Seems like this happened after my last
Windows Autoupdate.

Any ideas?
