what is the difference between the DVD location and the DVD region

i'm trying to get my DVD player to play store bought Dvd's but it will only
play dvd that are burned to disk...can someone help me?

Do you mean DVD-rom drive?
Or do you mean media player?

Do you mean you can copy encrypted DVD's to disk (DVD shrink?)
and then play them?
Or do you mean you can playback mpegs that are stored on disk?
