I am a relatively advanced user. I am having a very
annoying problem with Word (2002) and the XP (XP Pro)
Taskbar. I'll often have multiple Word documents open at
one time (sometimes with no other apps in the background,
sometimes with other apps in the background). I use the
taskbar to switch between Word documents as I copy/paste
information between documents or just look at other
documents. However, sometimes when I click on a Word
document on the taskbar, all of the Word items on the
taskbar disappear immediately. When I look at the Task
Manager, Word is no longer running. Of course, I lose
any changes that AutoRecover does not save.
I have noticed that this problem most frequently occurs
when Outlook (2002) is also open. Today, I closed
Outlook before I began editing 2 Word documents and I had
the same problem. So I suspect that having Outlook
opened previously also contributes to the problem. I
believe that I am up-to-date on service packs for
OfficeXP and WinXP.
This problem is really slowing me down -- I work with
multiple documents all the time, and I have to remember
to switch between documents using the menus in Word
instead of the using the Taskbar. Any ideas?
