View Full Version : Application Sharing doesn't work

No matter what I do. I'm in an IM session and I click Application Sharing or
Whiteboard and then the other party accepts. If I'm lucky enough to get the
Sharing dialog box, every setting is unavailable, and the top says "Not in a
call." But I am in a call. I opened ports on my router, but I can't even use
these features between the two computers in my LAN. I downloaded the latest
Windows Messenger (5.1) and installed it on both machines in my LAN. Does
anybody have any suggestions?

Not sure yet if I have the same problem as I am a newcomer to Messenger.
I dont seem to be able to set up application sharing, either initiating a
request or accepting one.
I was using 4.7, now upgraded to 5.1 and I still could have issues with the
set up of Norton IS which is my next investigation. I have read some info on
firewall set up but not clear as yet...
Interestingly i also connect to the internet via a wireless router...
text chat works fine, voice connect works fine, Application sharing does not
and I am not sure about remote assistance.
Any adivce as to where to start?

I too am experiencing this issue. Remote Assistance DOES work but
Application Sharing and Whiteboard do not. D-Link DI-614+ Wireless Router.
It used to work but think it may have quit working after XP SP2 install.
Just installed the latest firmware upgrade on D-link router but that didn't
resolve the problem.

Same problem here. I can receive and accept an invitation for application
sharing but it doesn't reach the other party. When I try it on my LAN
between two computers same problem - doesn't matter which one initiates the
sharing.
I have Linksys BEFSX41 firewall router and McAfee firewall 7.0.
Text works fine.
Glad to know I'm not alone....

Add me to your list as well, tried to tweak every setting I know but no
success.
Unable to find solution, lots of people looking for answers but nothing

Me, too, accept as to file sharing. See my recent query post on
"firewalls."

I had that problem with a contact who was behind a hardware firewall. To
correct the problem the person behind the firewall had to do these 2 things.
1) Go to ControlPanel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and start the
"Universal Plug and Play Device Host" service
2) Go to the ControlPanel -> Windows Firewall and tick the box against "UPNP
Framework" in the Exceptions tab
