I just tried to do my routing disk check in the C:Properties>Tools area and
it routinly asks me if I want to perform the check during a reboot and I
always say yes.

Probelm is, when it restarts (XP Pro SP2) it attmepts to do the check disk
processes, but then says "cannot open voluime" or "cannot access volume" to
do the check and then it goes into normal reboot mode. Has anyone heard of
this or know how to fix it?

Thanks much.

Try run,type:cmd In cmd type:CHKNTFS /D: I believe it is,this cmd resets
CHKDSK to its default run,it also runs CHKDSK C: /F If C: needs to be chkd.
You can type in cmd:CHKNTFS /? For all cmds assoc. with it..

Thanks Andrew. When I typed in the cmd CHKNTFS / C I got the error you must
specify at least one drive.

When I typed in CHKNTFS / D: I got invalid parameter

Finally, when I typed in CHKDSK C: I got the following:
The type of the file system is NTFD

WARNING! F parameter not specified. Running CHKDSK in read-only mode.

I was hoping to restore the system to just go to the C>Properties>Tools and
good 'ol Check Volume for errors, sutomatically fix etc... and reboot.

I appreciate this advise as it is at leas running Steps 1-3. I sure would
like the good 'ol Steps 1-5 to happen on a reboot. Thanks again.

Running chkdsk in read-only mode is a waste of time.

[[If you run chkdsk without the /f command-line option on an active
partition, it might report spurious errors because it cannot lock the
drive.]]

See this for your original problem.

Unable to run CHKDSK

Thanks Wes for the help. I disabled AVG7 Alert Manager, AVG7 Update and PC
Tools Spyware Doctor and still the same problem. I tried to export my
services.msc file the best I could, but it was a tab delimitted file that is
a mess to paste into this post. Any other ideas or advise is greatly
appreciated!!

Thanks.
Duane

I just found out that a program called Hitman Pro can cause the problem.
