Win XP Pro SP2. Following up on some network connection problems, I went to
Administrative Tools | Event Viewer | System and noted the following error
record; Source: Application Hang with the Description as "Fault Bucket
122637809" My question is, what is "Fault Bucket"?

It means that you probably got an Event ID: 1001 Event Source: Application
Error

Explanation
A fault bucket identification number is a number assigned by the system to
identify specific types of errors. This number is used by Microsoft to
identify a particular program error when you send an error report.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

All I get is "Sorry, no additional information available at
present".........when I click on the MS web address that comes with the
error message.

Whatever crashed didn't offer any additional information. If you get a 1000
event there is usually a matching 1001 entry.

The way I handle crashing events is, if a program seems to crash quite
often, I uninstall and reinstall it.
