how do i know whether i need an internal or external dvd burner? thanks for

Do you have any place to install an internal? Like an empty drive bay?

Dear Tom,
Please forgive me if this sounds patronising, it's not intended, but.....
The fact that you needed to ask the question clearly indicates you
won't grasp the issues concerning the data transfer rates re: IDE
interface and USB etc.
Based on the context of your question I have no hesitation in
recommending that you should opt for an external burner.
These are extremely easy to install/connect, you only have to
ensure your PC has a USB.2 port (Thats "2" Not USB 1).
Ensure you opt for a multi-format burner.
