help with MSN automatic updates

Automatic updates indicates that I need to download a nd install SP1. After
the download completes I get a message that the program is installing but
nothing happens. I cannot exit the update program and a control/alt/delete
brings up the end task message but the program will not end. I wind up
having to kill the machine. Is there something I am doing wrong? Any
suggestions.!

Did you turn off or disable your antivirus software before beginning?
