Scandisk

I was told by a Microsoft professional not to use
scandisk in Windows XP. Which utility should I use to
check the hard dr, for errors?

Scandisk is now known as Check Disk:

Open the Command Prompt and type: CHKDSK /F , and hit enter.
Answer "yes" and reboot your computer.

1. Open XP's "Help and Support".
2. Look under "Pick a Help topic".
3. Click on "Performance and Maintenance"
