Task bar not showing properly

Good evening:

I'm not sure if you can help me with this or not.

For the past several weeks I've had to do a System Restore
once a week.

It always seems to happen when there is a slight hitch(one
of the programs doesn't shut down properly) in closing
down the computer for the night.

The next morning I get a whole bunch of strange icons in
the task bar and can only see the items I'm loading up
show up in a small segment of the task bar one at a time.
I spoke to the Sympatico people the first time it happened
and they suggested a System Restore. I don't think I
should have to do one once a week.
Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening
this often?
