Using Sony dcr-tvr 460 and firewire capture option causing hang

Hi everyone,
I am new here and hope that if I fail to follow certain protocol you'll
forgive me. I am using a p4 2.4gig
windows xp version 5.1 sp2
512 mg ram
generic firewire card
and the camera above
I have tried nero vision epress, win dvd, windows movie maker and all of
them hang when I get to the point of choosing to capture from camera. The
programs slow right down when I choose capture and then the window opens but
does not fill. Until a turn off the camera I can't shut down the program.
Any initial ideas? -- oh the usb streaming was working fine and I have
just installed the firewire.

Try changing the pci slot the card is fitteed in, it may be conflicting with
other hardware.
