Using XP Home I constantly have System Volume
Information\_restore files massively scattered all over
drive C. Norton SpeedDisk has a hard job trying to
defrag them. Does it have to be this way? Can an area
be designated to store them contiguously? Any info
please.

Dennis,
On Symantec's support site, there is a KB article that talks about SpeedDisk
and not being able to defragment System Restore files. Just one of it's
many limitations.
You might try running the built-in defragmenter and see if it is capable of
doing a better job (you may end up needing to boot into safe mode and
running from there). If that doesn't work to your satisfaction, you might
consider a 3rd party defragmenter that is more up to the "job".
